FILM SCHOOL REJECTS – This will be the third collaboration between the actress and director, who were both Oscar-nominated for their work on ‘The Favourite.’
When you find a director you enjoy working with, you’ll do anything you can with them. That’s how great filmmaker and actor pairing happen. If they also make creative works unlike anything else in the business, let alone anything you’re offered, and they’ve gotten an Oscar-nominated performance out of you, all the better. It’s no wonder that Emma Stone is reuniting with Yorgos Lanthimos for two upcoming film projects.
The first one isn’t something that will be widely seen, unfortunately. Announced a year ago, Lanthimos was invited to create a special installation for the Greek National Opera and the Greek cultural nonprofit Neon (no connection to the film distributor) as part of their The Artist on the Composer series. Stone stars in the short film alongside Damien Bonnard (Les Misérables), which is scheduled to be presented with a live orchestra this September after being delayed from last year.
The second project is Lanthimos’ next feature, which has been listed in Production Weekly as coming together for a fall 2021 shoot. Stone will star in the film, an adaptation of Alasdair Gray’s postmodern Victorian-era-set novel Poor Things, as a pregnant woman who drowns herself to escape her abusive husband and is then resurrected, Frankenstein-style, but her brain has been replaced by that of her unborn child. What, you thought the plot of a Lanthimos film would be anything but bizarre?
Poor Things will be scripted by Tony McNamara, who also co-wrote The Favourite and Stone’s upcoming Disney movie Cruella, and released by The Favourite distributor, Searchlight Pictures. The hope is that we’ll be able to see it as early as fall 2022.
GIANT FREAKIN ROBOT – Emma Stone is the kind of actress that immediately makes a project worth keeping your eyes on. She is a powerhouse performer that has crafted a truly impressive and varied career over the years with films like La La Land, The Favourite, and Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance). Not to mention her incredible comedy chops in movies like Zombieland, Superbad, and Easy A. Basically, if she is showing up in a movie, it is a pretty good chance you’re gonna be in for a memorable experience. And according to some new information we have received, there is another project the actress will be starring in that sounds like a must-see film.
Our trusted inside source – the same one that informed Giant Freakin Robot with a confirmed scoop that Josh Brolin will be returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the Mad Titan Thanos – has revealed that Emma Stone is in talks to star in Foe, an adaptation of Iain Reid’s novel of the same name. The film will be directed by Garth Davis who is also set to direct Tron 3 for Disney. Author Iain Reid is adapting his novel to the screen. The story centers around a married couple who live on an isolated farm. One day, a stranger shows up and tells them that the husband has been selected to travel to an orbiting space station above Earth and will live there for two years before returning home. In the interim, a biomechanical duplicate of the husband will stay with his wife to keep her company. The stranger will be monitoring the husband to collect data that will make the duplicate as lifelike as possible.
Emma Stone is a Louis Vuitton ambassador since 2017. She has been seen wearing clothes from the brand and has participated in several campaigns for handbags and perfumes.
What I love about you, Emma, is your ability to balance. You have this femininity and, at the same time, a boyish side that’s supercool and inspiring. - Nicolas Ghesquière about Emma.
