In addition to recasting a brand-new web slinger for The Amazing Spider-Man, it was crucial that newcomer Andrew Garfield’s Peter Parker had the proper chemistry with Emma Stone’s Gwen Stacy. Watch an exclusive clip of the two on and off-screen love birds’ screen test from the new The Amazing Spider-Man Blu-ray!
“She came in and she was like a shot of espresso,” says Andrew. “She’s incredibly energetic and enthusiastic and she had this sense of play and fun which was incredibly exciting.”
Director Marc Webb, whose previous big-screen foray was the romantic (500) Days of Summer, explains, “When we tested them, there was fireworks. She could take on Andrew’s improvisation and witticisms and one-up him. I mean, it was amazing to see them go back and forth. … It became an obvious combination, because that’s what people are there for.”
And Emma adds, “Marc Webb’s biggest goal has been working out that relationship, and making sure it feels authentic, and he kind of brings it all back down to earth, even though we’re operating in a superhero universe. It’s certainly important to Andrew and I that this relationship would exist in a world of no superheroes.”
The Amazing Spider-Man Blu-ray, featuring a very cool second-screen app with multiple interactive features, is out Friday.
Just 24 short years ago, eminent comedienne and Hollywood muse Emma Stone came into the world. Since then, the sometimes-blonde, sometimes-redhead, always-adorable starlet has consistently graced the movie world with her impeccable comic timing and that irresistibly smoky voice.
After a small part in Superbad brought her to the attention of big-time Hollywood players (and every geeky fanboy in America), Stone climbed the A-list ladder with star-making turns in Zombieland and Easy A. Her trajectory in the last two years alone has seen her make out with Ryan Gosling (Crazy, Stupid, Love), star in an Oscar contender (The Help), and play a comic book icon (The Amazing Spider-Man). And as if she wasn’t already living any actress’ dream, in the last role, as Spider-Man flame Gwen Stacy, Stone started dating her handsome co-star Andrew Garfield. Which means that, with her part in next year’s Gangster Squad, she will have been dating a hot British dude and made out with Ryan Gosling at the same time. If she weren’t so freakin’ hilarious we’d be inclined to totally hate her for that.
Hats off to you, Ms. Stone. Your success is a testament to your talent and your hard work. We might resent you for making out with Gosling twice in two years, but let’s face it girl — you earned it. Best wishes on your special day!
Before Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone reprise their roles in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, they’re enjoying a much-deserved break.
“They just love spending time together,” says a pal of the actor, 29.
To relax, the couple of more than a year caught Cirque du Soleil’s L.A. show October 16 and braved a Paranormal Activity 4 screening five days later.
In general, “They are absolutely adorable together,” another insider tells Us Weekly. “They both seem to have their heads on straight . . . They are the most normal couple I have seen.”
Romantic bliss aside, Stone, 24, isn’t clamoring for any wedding activity just yet.
“There’s no rush to get engaged,” adds a confidant. “They are both young and ambitious.”
Sony’s “The Amazing Spider-Man 2? seems to be coming together faster than expected, as sources tell Variety the studio is in early talks with Jamie Foxx to play the villain in the movie.
Sources also told Variety that Foxx would play Electro, and Foxx later tweeted, “Dressed up as Electro for Halloween last night. Costume fits well.”
Electro is the alter ego of Max Dillon, an enemy of Spider-Man who gains the ability to control electricity after being struck by lightning. Created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, the character first appeared in “The Amazing Spider-Man #9? in February 1964.
In “The Amazing Spider-Man’s” post-credit sequence, set inside Dr. Curt Connors’ cell at an asylum, the Lizard is approached by a mysterious, shadowy figure (Michael Massee) who asks if Peter Parker knows the truth about his father. Lightning features prominently in the scene, prompting auds to speculate that Electro would be featured in the sequel.
Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone are onboard to return, with Shailene Woodley in talks to join the cast as well. Marc Webb is set to return to direct.
Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are producing the sequel, whose screenplay will be credited to frequent tentpole scribes Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, as well as Jeff Pinkner, based on a previous draft by James Vanderbilt. “The Amazing Spider-Man” grossed $751 million worldwide, and the sequel is skedded to swing into theaters in 3D on May 2, 2014.
As for Foxx, Sony has already begun building a relationship with the thesp. The studio will be distributing “Django Unchained” overseas, and Foxx is starring alongside Channing Tatum in “White House Down,” which Sony is viewing as one of its major tentpoles next summer.
Justin Bieber, Nick Cannon and some other Hollywood stars are rewarding teen volunteers during the annual TeenNick HALO Awards in November. Four teenagers who have contributed and given back to their communities are going to come to Los Angeles for the show’s taping on Nov. 17 and will be given their awards by the celebrities attending the show.
In addition to Bieber and Cannon, Nickelodeon has announced that Emma Stone, Josh Duhamel and Tyra Banks will all be coming to the fourth annual awards show. Cannon created the TeenNick HALO (Helping And Leading Others) Awards in 2009 to reward teens who are “helping and leading others.”
This year’s recipients range in age from 16 to 19 and include one person who started an organization to provide clothes for teen girls in low-income families and another who makes and distributes gift bags for breast cancer patients having chemotherapy. The TeenNick HALO Awards are airing as a 90-minute special on Nickelodeon on Nov. 19.
EXCLUSIVE: I’m hearing that after a lengthy search, Cameron Crowe has set his sights on Bradley Cooper to star with Emma Stone in the film Crowe wrote and will direct next spring for Sony Pictures. Scott Rudin is producing. Crowe set Stone last July for the untitled project, a two-hander with a tone reminiscent of past Crowe films Almost Famous and Jerry Maguire. No deal yet, but I expect there to be one. It is the latest good thing to happen for Cooper, who’ll be making Oscar noise for his performance as the bipolar Philadelphia Eagles fan in the David O Russell-directed Silver Linings Playbook for The Weinstein Company. Cooper’s repped by CAA.
The casting of Cooper opposite Stone does line up with the two lead roles in the film once called Deep Tiki, which was about the following:
A 37-year-old disgraced US weapons consultant named Brian Gilcrest is disliked by most everyone. His only friend is a techie named Jeremy “a super-smart and highly aware computer”. As a response to aggression from China, Gilcrest is deployed to a dormant military base in Hawaii to supervise the launch of an advanced spy satellite. Together with the anal and humorless Major Lisa Ng, he must secure the blessings of the native Hawaiian council before the launch. Gilcrest also gets a chance to meet with Tracy, the one love of his life who got away, along with her husband and two kids. On the island he discovers himself.
That description came from a report four years ago but, when this new project was announced with Stone attached, rumor was the script had been radically reworked. Plus, Crowe and Sony have been careful not to refer to the project as “Deep Tiki.” So we still aren’t sure what the movie is, besides something “reminiscent of past Crowe films Almost Famous and Jerry Maguire.” Which could mean anything.

Taylor Swift might be best known for talking about guys (the good ones and the bad ones!), but the 22-year-old music superstar says she’s “definitely a girl’s girl.”
Access Hollywood’s Kit Hoover recently sat down with Taylor, whose “Red” album dropped this week to stellar sales and digital downloads numbers, where she dished on her best girlfriends – Selena Gomez and Emma Stone – and her love of a variety of girl-powered TV shows.
“I’m definitely a girl’s girl. I need to tell my friends everything I’m going through,” Taylor said. “We have these big group texts where I’ll just like text them everything that’s going on with my day and one of us in New York, one of us is in Los Angeles, one of us is in Nashville or Paris.”
Taylor, Selena and Emma have all had amazing career highs this year, and the trio relies on each other’s mutual continued support as they all navigate their different paths.
“It’s just so important to have people that you trust and Emma and Selena and I, we’ve had so many things in our lives that have changed over the last couple years, but our friendship has stayed the same. So that’s really good,” she told Kit.
When it comes to dealing with relationship advice, Taylor said she goes to Emma for help and for career tips, she seeks out Selena.
The singer told Kit that said her favorite TV show is “Grey’s Anatomy,” even naming her cat after the show’s star.
“I love Ellen Pompeo and I love that cast,” she explained. “That show has been there for me through some tough times, so I named my cat after Meredith.”
And the female-fueled TV watching doesn’t stop with Seattle Grace for the chart-topper.
“I love ‘Girls,’ I love ‘The Mindy Project,’ I love ‘New Girl’” she added.
Taylor Swift is in the headlines for her new album “Red” and for dating Conor Kennedy. Much noise is being made of Taylor’s ballads about her relationship with John Mayer and other past boyfriends. The Taylor Swift news on Friday reveals Swift’s deep gratitude for her friends, and that might be the most important news of all. Swift knows that she owes her ability to stay grounded on her closest friends; Emma Stone and Selena Gomez.
Never mind all the Hollywood feuds and dating rumors, these girls are sticking together. If rumors are true, Selena Gomez may need her friend Taylor Swift to watch her back, as newest developments report that Vanessa Hutchins is a trifle jealous of Selena’s success.
Taylor gives credit to her friends in the latest interview as relayed by the Improper:
“They [friends] are so important in my life right now. I’m the kind of girl who needs to tell her friends everything. I’ve developed this really close-knit group of girls. I met Emma when I was 17, and I met Selena when I was 18. So they’ve experienced all of this with me, and they’ve also experienced their own amazing success, and somehow through all of it, we’ve stayed close.”
Let’s hope things go well for all three women as the coming months promise to be very busy for each of them. Emma Stone is busy with a new Spider-Man movie and rumor has it, her character will die. Friend Selena Gomez is always busy with movies, records and charitable events such as her Thursday visit at the Steven Spielberg Pediatric Research Center.
Taylor Swift is busy herself as she takes over morning television next week. A video promotion heralds Swift’s appearance on Good Morning America Monday and Tuesday.
What Emma Stone wants, Emma Stone gets? Back in August, the actress revealed that she was hoping her character of Gwen Stacey in “The Amazing Spider-Man” would stay true to the comics and meet an unfortunate end. “Essentially the argument is that Spider-Man kills her by accident,” Stone explained about the appeal of the storyline, “So the person she loves is the person who kills her, which is the most horrifying thing. Apparently people unsubscribed to the comic book when that happened because they were just so flipped-out over it. But, of course, I want to stay true to that.” Now, it looks like Sony will.
Buried in THR’s report yesterday about the “Divergent” casting of Shailene Woodley — who as you recall is now set to play Mary Jane Watson — the trade revealed that the actress’ role is “only a very small part in ‘Amazing Spider-Man 2′ but blossoms into an integral lead for the planned third movie as the studio seeks to build to the classic ‘Death of Gwen Stacy’ story.” Pretty ballsy stuff when you consider the first picture seemed to be a battle between reinvention or delivering the narrative comic fans are familiar with.
In the original comics, Green Goblin (is he coming back as a villain then?) throws Gwen off the Brooklyn Bridge, and Spidey uses his web to catch her. But the whiplash snaps her neck and kills her, leaving Spidey devastated. Enter Mary Jane, who helps Peter Parker grieve and in turn becomes his new flame. Heavy stuff, but an undeniably potent storyline.
Is this the right call? Do you like the direction they’re taking the next two films? Weigh in below.
